Microsoft kills Surface Hub. The $20K office display is done.

Microsoft is stopping production of the Surface Hub 3 and canceling the Surface Hub 4 entirely, according to Windows Central. The enormous touchscreen displays—which came in 50-inch and 85-inch models priced at $8,000 and $20,000—are getting axed after more than a decade on the market.

The Surface Hub launched in 2015 as a high-end collaborative tool for offices. It was basically a massive digital whiteboard with a built-in PC, designed to let teams work together in conference rooms. Microsoft sold them at premium prices to enterprises and institutions willing to pay for the hardware.

The move marks the end of an era for the product line. Even the departure of Panos Panay—the Surface division’s former leader who jumped to Amazon in 2023—didn’t trigger the shutdown. But apparently, demand has dried up enough that Microsoft decided to pull the plug entirely rather than continue development.

It’s unclear what Microsoft plans to do with collaborative office technology going forward, or if the company will pivot to other solutions entirely.
