Roblox splits into age-based accounts to lock down kids’ safety
Roblox is dividing its platform into two age-restricted account types to control what kids can see and who they can talk to. Users aged five to nine get a “Roblox Kids” account. Users nine to 15 get “Roblox Select.”
The move is a direct response to growing pressure on the platform over safety concerns. Roblox hosts millions of user-generated games, which means moderation at scale is messy. Bad actors have used the platform to scam younger players or expose them to inappropriate content.
The tiered accounts give parents more control. Younger kids get stricter chat restrictions and access to a curated game library. Select accounts offer a middle ground—more games, but still filtered. Both require parental oversight.
Roblox didn’t announce when these accounts roll out or whether existing users will be automatically sorted into them.
